1909 - Benny Goodman, clarinetist/bandleader born in Chicago
1964 - Beatles' "Love Me Do," single goes #1
1968 - The Beatles began recording the "White Album."
1997 - Neil Young canceled his European tour because he had cut his finger while slicing a ham sandwich.
1999 - In New Jersey, Lenny Kravitz walked off stage after 40 minutes and collapsed from heat exhaustion. He had been performing in a fur coat.

May 31
1809 - Franz Josef Haydn, Austrian composer, dies at 77
1917 - 1st jazz record released (Dark Town Strutters Ball)
1979 - In New York City, the restored Radio City Music Hall was reopened
1982 - Survivor released single "Eye of the Tiger."
1999 - VH1's "Behind the Music" began airing nightly. The premier show was "The Red Hot Chili Peppers: Behind the Music."

1804 - Mikhail Ivan Glinka, Novosspaskoye Russia, composer
1941 - Edo de Waart, conductor, born in Amsterdam Holland
1964 - Dolly Parton moved to Nashville, TN, one day after she graduated from high school.
1967 - Beatles release Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in US and goes gold
1974 - Alanis Nadine Morisette born in Ottawa, Ontario

June 2
1964 - Rolling Stones 1st US concert tour begins in Lynn, Massachusetts
1857 – Sir Edward William Elgar, composer, born in Broadheath, England

June 3
1982 - Elvis Presley's Graceland mansion in Memphis, TN, opened as a tourist attraction.
1990 - Michael Jackson was admitted to St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica after complaining of chest pains. Test showed that he had bruised ribs from dance practice.

June 4
1984 - Bruce Springsteen released his "Born in the U.S.A." album.
1988 - 42nd Tony Awards: M Butterfly and Phantom of the Opera win
1997 - The body of Jeff Buckley was found floating in a harbor leading to the Mississippi River. Buckley had disappeared the previous Thursday while swimming in a Memphis harbor.

June 5
1983 - 37th Tony Awards: Torch Song Trilogy and Cats win
1956 - Kenny G, saxophonist, born in Seattle, WA
1826 - Carl Maria Friedrich Ernst von Weber, composer, dies at 39
