June 27
1959 - "West Side Story," with music by Leonard Bernstein, closed after 734 performances on Broadway.
1959 - Trisha Yearwood born in Nashville TN
1971 - The Fillmore East in New York City closed.
1988 - Cyndi Lauper got her high school diploma from Richmond High in New York.
1988 - MCA Records bought Motown Records for $61 million.
1989 - The Who performed the rock opera, "Tommy," in its entirety for the first time in 17 years at New York's Radio City Music Hall.
1994 - Aerosmith became first major band to let fans download a full new track free online

June 28
1902 - Richard Rodgers, composer, (of Rogers & Hammerstein) born in Hammels Station, NY
1986 - Wham! made their farewell concert appearance at London's Wembley Stadium. Elton John made an appearance in a clown suit to sing a song and then came back later to sing "Candle In The Wind" with George Michael.


June 29
1909 - Leroy Anderson, composer, born in Cambridge, MA
1963 - Beatles' 1st song "From Me to You" hits UK charts
1969 - Shorty Long drowned when his boat capsized off Sandwich Island in Ontario, Canada at 29 years old.
1969 - The Jimi Hendrix Experience played their last concert on the last day of the Denver Pop Festival.

June 30
1939 - Frank Sinatra made his first appearance with Harry James’ band.

July 1
1935 - Seiji Ozawa [Fentian Shenyan], orchestral conductor, born in Manchuria
1956 - Elvis Presley appeared on "The Steve Allen Show." He was told not to dance and Allen had him sing "Hound Dog" to a real basset hound wearing tails.
1967 - Beatles' "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," goes #1 for 15 weeks
1973 - "Jesus Christ Superstar" closed in New York City after 720 performances on Broadway.

July 2
1981 - Bruce Springsteen played the first show ever at the 21,000 seat Brendan Byrne Meadowlands Arena in New Jersey.

July 3
1854 - Composer Leos Janacek was born.
1969 - Brian Jones (formerly of the Rolling Stones) was found dead in his swimming pool at his Cotchford Farm, Hartfield, England, home.  He was 27.
1971 - Jim Morrison (Doors) died in Paris at age 27.
